Dr. M. Sheerin Banu is a Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology at R.M.K. Engineering College (Autonomous), with 30 years of professional experience in engineering education, academic administration, research, innovation, and technology development. She holds B.E., M.S., M.Tech., and Ph.D. qualifications and has made significant contributions to teaching, research, academic quality enhancement, and interdisciplinary technological advancement.

Her research expertise spans Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning, Data Science, Data Analytics, and Image Processing. Her research contributions encompass intelligent healthcare systems, medical image analysis, disease prediction, secure data management, blockchain applications, agricultural technology, and optimization techniques. She has published 42 research papers in reputed international journals and conference proceedings, contributed chapters to scholarly books, and authored 8 books in computer science and programming, including Linux Programming, Problem Solving with Python Programming, Computer Programming, Visual Programming, Programming with C, and Fundamentals of Computing and Programming.

Dr. M.Sheerin Banu has actively contributed to research and development through projects, grant-supported academic initiatives, patent development, and research proposal preparation. She has received funding from various organizations, including IEEE Tech4Good, ISTE-BNY, AICTE, DRDO, and TCS, for technology-based community initiatives, faculty development programmes, national-level conferences, and seminars. Her funded initiatives include a Solar-Powered Smart Digital Library and Community Learning Hub in Panpakkam, reflecting her commitment to technology-enabled education and community development with a grant of US$ 7965 from IEEE.

Her research and innovation activities have resulted in granted patents for an Automatic and Manual Cleaning Bot using an Android Application and an IoT-based COVID-19 Patient Monitoring System. She has also published patents relating to Assistive Technology For Visually Impaired People and Smart IoT-based Tyre Monitoring Systems. In addition, she has submitted research proposals to agencies such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the United States–India Science and Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF), addressing Genomic Data Interpretation, Genetic Disease Analysis, Crop Disease Detection using Deep Learning, and AI-Enabled Decision Support for Antimicrobial Resistance Management.

In academic administration and quality assurance, Dr. M.Sheerin Banu has contributed to outcome-based education and institutional quality enhancement. Her work includes research on achieving focused programme outcomes through the Centre of Excellence approach and the design and development of an automation tool for National Board of Accreditation (NBA) evaluators. She served as an NBA evaluator in 2013 and was nominated as a member of the Independent Expert Committee for evaluating solutions and courses under NEAT 2.0. These roles reflect her engagement with academic evaluation, educational technology, and quality-oriented higher education practices.

She is a member of IEEE and its Consumer Technology Society, a life member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), a member of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a member of the Data Science Association. She is also a licensed professor of the Qlik Academic Program.
