Dr. Balasubramanian M
M.E., Ph.D., F.I.E., M.I.S.T.E.,Balasubramanian M obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Post Graduation in Production Engineering from Annamalai University, Tamilnadu, India. He obtained his Doctoral Degree in the area of Manufacturing from Anna University, Tamilnadu, India in 2007. He has to his credit 28 years of teaching experience including 15 years of Research experience. After having served various leading institutions from 2006, in the capacity of Professor and Head, he is presently heading the Department of Science and Humanities at RMK Engineering College since July 2025.
He has more than 161 Research Articles published in refereed Journals. He has obtained Research Projects and Seminar Grants from various Funding Agencies like BRNS, AICTE, ISTE, MNRE, and CSIR across India to the tune of 40 lakhs. He has organized several FDPs, National and International Conferences/Workshops sponsored by AICTE, Anna University, CSIR, MNRE, and BRNS. Prof. Balasubramanian’s area of specialization includes Optimization, Material Joining and Materials.
The article titled Modeling corrosion behavior of gas tungsten arc welded titanium alloy; published in the journal Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China was rated among the top 25 articles in Science Direct. Article titled “Effect of process parameters of pulsed current tungsten inert gas welding on weld pool geometry of titanium welds” published in the journal of Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters) was listed in the Top 30 downloaded articleshttp://www.amse.org.cn/EN/article/showDownloadTopList.do
The article “Experimental investigation of Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy and 304L stainless steel friction welded with copper interlayer” published in the journal Defence Technology” was rated one among the top 25 articles in Science Direct.
Acted as session co-chair for advanced materials design, processing, and application in the ASME conference, IMECE 2015 held in Houston, Texas, United States of America, between the 13th and 19th of November 2015.
H index is the author-level metric that attempts to measure both the productivity and citation impact of the publication of a scholar. His Google Scholar H index is 24, Scopus H index is 22 and WoS H index is 21. To add to the feathers on his cap, he has five Patents granted to his credit in the area of Friction Welding, Nozzle Design in Abrasive Jet Machining and Equal Channel Angular Pressing of Materials.
He is a Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Trendy Research in Engineering and Technology. He is an active Reviewer in several Journals published by Elsevier and Springer. He has collaborated with several Organizations for Consultancy and Training. He has also interacted with Organizations like Hyundai Motor India Limited and Addison Tools Limited; and due to his interaction and affiliation, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. presented an I20 car and Addison and Company Ltd., a complete kit of tools used in industry for the advantage of student community.
He is a Lifetime Member of the Indian Society of Technical Education, Indian Welding Society, Indian Institute of Welding, Institution of Engineers, and Society for Failure Analysis. He is a DNV Certified Internal Auditor for the ISO 9001 Certification. He is also the approved Supervisor by Anna University for guiding Ph.D. scholars and under his guidance 4 scholars have completed their Doctoral Degree. He received the Best Faculty Award from Cognizant Technology Solutions in 2015 and the Best Administrator Award for the year 2016 from Dr.Kalam Educational Trust. He name has been listed in the Elsevier and Stanford University Top 2% Scientist list.
